Framework Special Interest Group

Mission

The Best Practices & Frameworks special interest group (SIG) is focused on developing practical resources with the mission to advance and adopt responsible AI technologies while prioritizing privacy, security, and integrity.  We seek to promote best practices and frameworks through fostering unified collaboration across industry, academia, and government to drive innovation and accountability and to build public trust.

We have held monthly meetings that have provided opportunities to identify and discuss key issues incorporating multiple perspectives from the private and public sectors.  Some of the key areas include validity and reliability, safety, privacy, security and resiliency, explainability, interpretability, fairness, accountability and transparency.  Our SIG’s next goal is to draft a document that will further develop risk frameworks that addresses the identified issues in support of data democratization and responsible use of artificial intelligence.  The focus of this document will be recommendations for processes to implement AI within a practical and understandable framework that allows for individuals or institutions to assess risks and provides resources to support mitigation strategies that can be scaled and utilized by a broad range of community users.

We hope to identify constraints, needs and approaches that can support implementation and long-term regulatory development in support of policies developed by the Policy SIG.  We plan to propose pilot projects that can be used to evaluate the frameworks developed and refine and revise our recommendations to demonstrate the value of best practices to the AI community.

Towards this, our SIG aims to develop a white paper and template for governance.
