Sameer Patil, who has served on the University of Utah One-U Responsible AI Initiative Executive Committee since its 2024 inception, recently appeared as an expert witness in a court case where prosecutors want permission to play an AI-generated simulation of a victim's voice to a jury. Patil and Kenneth Marino, both faculty in the Kahlert School of Computing, discussed the technology behind the tool, as well as its ethical implications.
